Retainers in Hanwell

One of the most important parts of your orthodontic treatment is wearing a retainer at the end of treatment, to keep your teeth in place.

A retainer is an orthodontic appliance which has been designed to keep your teeth where your braces have moved them to. When braces are removed, the teeth have a tendency to want to return back to their original positions. Retainers prevent this from happening and are key to maintaining the success of your orthodontic treatment. Depending on your lifestyle, we will recommend a fixed or removable retainer for you:

  • Hawley Retainer – This removable retainer includes a metal wire that normally surrounds the six front teeth to keep them in place.
  • Essix Retainer – Made of clear plastic this removable retainer covers the entire arch of teeth.
  • Fixed Retainer – Fitted permanently to the back of your teeth, this retainer holds your new smile in place. It cannot be removed.
